Teignmouth Lighthouse

Teignmouth Lighthouse. Devon, England
Another one from Loraine (SB)

Just a note about the Teignmouth Lighthouse

Teignmouth was once a seaport and market town, but today it is now a popular holiday seaside resort at the mouth of the River Teign on the coast of East Devon. This lighthouse has never had a keeper and has often been mistaken for a "toy lighthouse". Far from being a toy this tower is an important leading light, which together with the light on Powderham Terrace guides shipping into the harbour even now. It is mounted on a tall pole in front of the Lynton House Hotel. The lighthouse is kept clean and maintained by the Harbour Master. It shows a fixed red light visible for 3 miles and when lined up with the leading light behind it provides a safe passage across the sand bars at the mouth of the Teign.
